Find this trail on the Washington side by driving East on I-84 to Hood River (exit 63) and crossing the bridge over the Columbia River (75 cents). Turn right (East) on SR-14 to Lyle. Just after leaving Lyle, you will go through a tunnel and the parking area is just after the tunnel on the left.
The trail goes up and soon you are on a bench where you can walk out to a view of the Columbia (looking East here). There is no rail - step carefully!

Continuing up slope through Oak and Poison Oak |
To another viewpoint with my anonymous hiking partner.

On top there is a plateau with grassland and basalt formations |
And a lot of yellow star thistle (
Centaurea solstitialis), an invasive plant from Eurasia that is taking over native grasslands in several Western states. Mr. Thornsby does not approve.
